Challenge
We were approached by the leadership team of the world’s largest LNG construction to address their accommodation shortage issues and assess their staff direct/indirect ratio’s
Due to the rapid ramp up of the LNG facility and the fact the facility was on a world heritage listed site, accommodation on the site was a major challenge
- There was no visibility on staffing numbers for the construction contractors and accommodation utilisation was being incorrectly reported
Solution
- ImpRes worked with the leadership team to first address the accommodation utilisation issues and work with them to understand the gaps
- A new process was established for managing bedding requirements and allocations
- A process was established to measure and manage direct/indirect ratios
- Working closely with both the leadership and operational teams, all processes were built into existing roles and where possible, systems were established to manage the process
Results
Accommodation utilisation was increased from 84% to 98% (taking vacant rooms from an average of 700 per night to less than 30 per night
Dual accommodation options were assessed and implemented, increasing the capacity of the camp by over 700 beds
A total of 117 beds (equivalent to 257 people) were freed up due to assessment of direct/indirect requirement and the overall direct/indirect ratio was increased by 2.5%
The combined projects delivered $125M in tangible value
A number of roles were taken out of the camp and either relocated or removed
Total savings of over $100M
